ReadyCare is a group of free resources designed to help older adults and their families prepare to age at home.

ReadyCare offers essential information and actionable steps you can take now.

How ReadyCare Works

ReadyCare is anchored around guided workshops adaptable to various settings, including one-on-one consultations, small group gatherings, or larger presentations and webinars. During our workshops, Educators provide participants with valuable insights about aging at home versus relocating to a senior living community.

We also explore the events that may lead to needing more care support, offering guidance on how to be prepared for these events and how to manage them effectively. Finally, we discuss potential first steps participants can take to ensure they feel prepared and confident about their ability to age at home.

  • The ReadyCare Model is the proprietary model of employing reflection, education, and action to reduce the anxiety of senior care planning. This model includes the “Where will I live?” “Who will care for me?” and “What can I do now?” process of preparedness.

  • ReadyCare Workshops are free, interactive, online, or in-person sessions aimed at helping older adults identify their preferences and learn about care options for living and support. The workshops leverage our proprietary workbook containing key insights about care as you age.

  • ReadyCare Webinars are FREE online presentations aimed at helping seniors learn about care options for living and support.

  • ReadyCare Sessions are FREE 1:1 consultation sessions where professionals from Commonwise sit down with families and discuss options, help plan, and answer individual questions.

  • The ReadyCare Workbook is a FREE standalone interactive resource aimed at helping seniors identify their preferences and learn about care options for living and support.

  • The ReadyCare Membership is a proactive service for older adults who want to take an actionable step to aging at home.

A Commonwise RN Care Manager assesses your home and potential care needs and creates a provisional care plan with check-ins every 90 days until you need care.

Meet our Educators

David Wilson, Certified Senior Advisor

In the last decade of his successful 35-year teaching career, David found himself becoming more and more involved with the care of his own aging parents.

  • The compassionate care he gave to his parents felt like a natural extension of the care he had been giving to his classroom students through the years. In fact, he felt so drawn to the world of personal home care that he decided to switch careers. After receiving his initial training and experience with Commonwise Home Care, he moved into private practice and returned to school to become a Certified Nursing Aide and a Certified Senior Advisor. When Commonwise approached him about becoming one of its Community Educators, the idea felt like the perfect melding of his life-long passions for education and for helping people.

Jeffrey Grossman, Founder & CEO

Inspired by his mother’s battle with cancer and his father's work as a hospice medical director, Jeffrey graduated law school with hopes to honor his personal ties to caregiving.

  • After working closely with other home care services, however, Jeffrey quickly realized the system rarely bred quality. Instead, care services prioritized profit at the cost of caregivers, clients, and their loved ones, amplifying the stress and uncertainty of those in vulnerable situations.

Jeffrey founded Commonwise as an antidote to chronic industry shortcomings. He worked to build an infrastructure built upon more than good intentions—one that didn’t just dispatch caregivers, but hired them meticulously, trained them thoughtfully, and supported them robustly. He created a structure in which caregivers aren’t just aides, but warm hosts, assisting clients in their homes with dedication and grace.

In his free time, Jeffrey enjoys hiking, spending time with his two kids, wife and dog, Gidget.

Marcy DeHaan, MA, BSN, RN

Marcy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa in 2001 which led to her licensure as a registered nurse (RN).

  • She later went on to further her education, receiving a Master of Art in Human Services Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in 2024. She has extensive nursing knowledge by working as an RN these past 23 years. Marcy started her nursing career working in the geriatric population in the long-term care setting. As her nursing career excelled, she was a Director of Nursing for an assisted living, a RN in hospital acute care, a hospice case manager, and a community relations manager for a home health and hospice company. Providing education for the community, individuals, and families is her greatest passion, which led to her position at Commonwise Home Care as a community educator. Her gifts of caring and empathy allow her to connect well with individuals and families from diverse populations.

Marcy enjoys benevolent work as well. She served on the Board of Directors for the Hospice Alliance of Hampton Roads for 2 years, to engage the community in charitable giving which would support building a local inpatient hospice house. She also enjoys spending her time caring for individuals and families in her church community by providing meals for families, visiting church members in the hospital, and serving in outreach opportunities, such as serving meals for the homeless population at the Union Mission in Norfolk, VA. She also enjoys going on mission trips and serving on the medical mission team.

In her spare time, Marcy enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She has been married to her husband for 26 years and has been blessed with 3 sons. She also enjoys her pet family too. She loves to travel, connect with friends over a nice meal, and volunteer when time allows. Marcy currently resides in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Barbara Franklin

Barbara Franklin has been immersed in the world of senior services for over 33 years! She retired as the Owner of a Charleston-based firm specializing in long term care planning and financing.

  • She was a Founder of the Lowcountry Senior Network and along with her husband, Paul, initiated the SC Aging in Place Coalition.

Barbara has seen long term care up close and personal with her father who had Alzheimer’s disease and needed various degrees of care for over ten years. She is currently the caregiver for her 99-year-old mother.

Barbara is anxious to share her knowledge about the resources, options and considerations that come into play with the planning process for aging in place – at home or in a community.

Our Why: The Readycare Story

With over a decade of experience in non-medical in-home care at Commonwise Home Care, we've seen many families realize that they need personal care, and haven't planned for it. While many people have made legal, financial, and healthcare preparations, planning for personal care needs often remains unaddressed until it becomes urgent.

Our ReadyCare Workshop, workbook, and planning model aim to fill this critical gap. ReadyCare focuses on essential but less-understood aspects of aging, such as where to age and which care systems are there to help. ReadyCare provides targeted insights and tools to help you and your loved ones make informed decisions, reducing stress and uncertainty about the future.

Thank you for allowing us to support you in this crucial part of your planning. We look forward to guiding you through these important considerations.

In Their Words

  • My sisters and I, along with our mom and dad, attended a ReadyCare workshop led by a Commonwise Educator. Initially, we thought we were planning for the future, but we quickly realized the immediate benefits. When Dad had a fall, we were well-prepared to navigate his hospitalization and organize the follow up care he needed at home.

    — Session Participant

  • My wife and I attended a ReadyCare webinar hosted by our concierge medicine practice, and it was incredibly beneficial. The session was well-organized and informative, providing us with valuable insights and practical steps for preparing to age at home. Shortly after the webinar, we found ourselves better equipped to handle unexpected medical situations and coordinate care more effectively. And the ReadyCare membership program has given us peace of mind and a clear plan for to remain in our home in the future.
